SoS Pickles has doubts about Stockport Council (don’t we all)

A report from Woodford Community Council:

Woodford Aerodrome Planning Application on hold

The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has written to Stockport Council in response to its letter of 29th September 2014 concerning the application for permission to develop land at the former Woodford Aerodrome.

The Secretary of State regrets that the Department is unable to complete consideration of the proposal by 22nd October 2014 and, in exercise of his powers under article 25(1) The Town and Country Planning (Development Management Procedure) (England) Order 2010, the Secretary of State has directed Stockport Council not to grant permission on the application without specific authorisation. This Direction is issued to enable the Department to have a further period in which to consider the proposal. The matter will be dealt with as quickly as possible and a further letter will be sent to SMBC when that consideration has been completed.

As there now is a further period of consideration regarding this application, you can still write to the Secretary of State if you missed the 22nd October deadline. All details can be found here.

LibDem Chair of Planning fails to declare interest in £350m scheme affecting his employer

LibDem Councillors Posted on Mon, September 29, 2014 21:08

Councillor Grice works for Manchester Airport and chaired the planning meeting which passed the £350m Airport Link Road. He failed to declare an interest. He should have left the meeting and taken no further part, not chaired it. This, apparently, was a criminal offence. How could he have missed the fact that the scheme was designed to benefit his employer? It stated as much in almost every document. Had Councillor Grice even bothered to read the relevant documentation surrounding this massive development? Under these circumstances is the passed road planning application even legally binding?

LibDems eh. Could they, should they run a whelk stand?

2nd worst in the country.

Stockport has the second highest number of vacant shops in the country. LibDems eh? What are they like? They have borrowed millions of pounds in “prudential borrowing” to do up the town and this is still the result.
