💬 What’s Happening to Our Local Green Space?
Recently, small trees and undergrowth adjacent to a well-established wildlife habitat were cut down by the Padden Brook landowner. The works were carried out without any visible environmental assessment, during a season when many species are especially vulnerable.
🌿 Why it matters:
- These trees and shrubs provide crucial cover and nesting space for a wide range of protected wildlife.
- The area is known locally as a biodiversity hotspot, with multiple species relying on its quiet, undisturbed environment.
- Disturbing or damaging such habitats, even indirectly, may breach environmental protection laws—yet no public consultation or ecological review appears to have taken place.
❗ Our community deserves answers:
We call on the council to –
- Justify the necessity and timing of this clearance.
- Disclose any ecological assessments carried out before work began.
- Commit to transparency and environmental accountability going forward.
