Subject: Urgent Concern Regarding the Case of Luba Macpherson
Dear Sir John,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to you regarding a matter of urgent concern involving Ms. Luba Macpherson, who was sent to a Category A prison on 9 September 2025. I am deeply troubled by the circumstances of her incarceration and the potential risks to her safety and well-being.
Ms. Macpherson’s imprisonment stems from her efforts to expose what she believes to be the appalling care her disabled daughter received from Lifeways, a care provider. Despite raising concerns about her daughter’s treatment, Ms. Macpherson was found in contempt of court for breaching injunctions that prohibited her from publishing details about her daughter’s care. These actions have led to her current imprisonment, raising serious questions about the balance between safeguarding vulnerable individuals and the right to free speech.
I am aware of your longstanding reputation as someone who consistently acts with integrity and a strong moral compass. It is for this reason that I felt compelled to bring this matter to your attention directly. I am concerned that critical information regarding Ms. Macpherson’s case may not have been fully presented to the Minister for Prisons, your son, which could result in an unjust outcome or unnecessary harm.
Furthermore, Ms. Macpherson is a Russian national, and Russian diplomats attended her trial. Her placement in a high-security Category A prison could unnecessarily escalate tensions and risk a diplomatic incident. It is clear that she should not have been sent to such a facility.
I urge you to use your influence to ensure that a thorough review is conducted, that all pertinent facts are considered, and that any decision is guided by fairness, justice, and human decency. Your intervention could make a profound difference, and I trust your judgment to act in accordance with what is right.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I hope that, through your involvement, justice and humanity can prevail, and that any unnecessary diplomatic complications are avoided.
With warmest best wishes
