Holding Councillors to Account For Their Decisions

Bypass Posted on Fri, January 24, 2014 18:47

Wonderful of Eric Pickles to make the videoing of council meetings compulsory. We can hold them to their comments, and they can’t deny having made them any more.

Subject: Question for the next council meeting (not tonight)

Dear Democratic Services

Question 1) for Councillor
Bispham

At the planning meeting on 22nd January 2014 you
made the comment that the air quality problems are mostly due to aircraft, so
the building of the road is not damaging to air quality and should go ahead. I
paraphrase but not much, and the meeting was webcast. Did you give any
consideration to the fact that the roadscheme will lead to further expansion of
the airport leading to more air pollution? Stockport faces the possibility of a
£30million fine and I feel we should give national coverage to councillors who
expose the council taxpayers of Stockport to such appalling financial risks.
Have you any comments to make regarding this?

Question 2) for Councillor Peter
Burns

Councillor Burns you quoted at the planning
meeting on 22nd January 2014 from the original SEMMMS report from 2001. In that
report, which you say you have read, is the stipulation that the road must be
for local traffic only and can not be for strategic traffic. You then went on
to expound widely on the strategic benefits of this roadscheme. This may well
fail at public inquiry with resulting losses to the council taxpayer likely to
dwarf the £18m wasted on the failed Mottram to Tintwistle Bypass public
inquiry. Did you give any consideration whatsoever to the fact that this road
was only allowed to be for local traffic?

Kind regards

Sheila

Dear Councillor Paul Bellis,

Regarding the Bramhall area
committee meeting this week where we were both in attendance. You will recall that in my capacity as an individual against
the planned A555 “relief” road I gave a two minute address to the committee.

Following this you questioned me specifically about traffic
volumes in Poynton village and how the A555 relief will “benefit” Poynton.

I would like to make the following clear councillor. In my opinion the planned SEMMMS route will have no beneficial
effect on the traffic flow through the centre of Poynton. This
is due to the fact that Poynton village centre is gridlocked at most times of
the day due to the volume of vehicles travelling on the A523. (Stockport to
Macclesfield). Another significant volume of traffic is ‘local’
traffic that is vehicles traveling in and around the local Poynton area.

The suggestion that a new road starting on one of the already
most congested roads in the United Kingdom (the A6, Hazel Grove) will alleviate
Poyntons associated traffic problems is absolute fantasy. It would also be
ridiculous to suggest that the reason why Poynton is so congested is due to
vehicles travelling to Manchester airport.

I hope that
clarifies my position as an individual that has resided in Poynton village for
most of my life.

With my kind regards.

Dear Councillor,

May I respectfully request that the attached link
below is opened and read by your good self.

The link details an important document with
conclusive evidence against the building of the proposed A555 “relief” road in
Stockport and Cheshire East.

I implore you to study this Campaign for Better
Transport document as it gives clarity to what is otherwise a very complex
application.

With my kind regards,

Special Circumstances allow destruction of the Green Belt by the LibDems

Bypass Posted on Mon, January 13, 2014 19:45

At Stepping Hill Area Committee it was claimed that special circumstances will allow the LibDems to go against planning policy and destroy the Green Belt.

What are they? I shall ask.

1200 properties can claim Part 1 Land Compensation

Bypass Posted on Mon, January 13, 2014 19:43

We will have to pay compensation and legal fees of the 1,200 residential properties along the route. How much have they set aside for this? I am not allowed to know

Traffic will increase from 23,800 vehicles per day to 59,000 per day

Bypass Posted on Mon, January 13, 2014 19:42

The LibDems admit there will be an increase in traffic in certain areas from 23,800 to 59,000 cars per day with the increase in pollution and devaluation of property. Is the bypass worth it to buy the LibDems a few votes?

It will cost £480,000 for every bypass job created.

Bypass Posted on Mon, January 13, 2014 19:40

The bypass is supposed to create jobs. That is what the LibDems say.

After 10 years it is likely to have created 600 new jobs if we are lucky. That is £480,000 per job; cheap at half the price to shore up the dodgy, Stockport LibDems, eh!

Cllr Laura Booth (Labour) and Councillor William Wragg (Tory)

Bypass Posted on Mon, January 13, 2014 19:37

Excellent common sense tonight at Stepping Hill Area Committee from both Councillors Booth and Wragg – thinking people with integrity.

You know if they have voted for something they have thought matters through and are not just toeing the party line.

We need more councillors like them.
